We Are Currently Hiring a Magazine Layout Designer
We are currently looking to hire a freelancer for a print magazine project. We are currently looking for a magazine layout developer to develop educational magazine issues in Adobe InDesign. Type of Work: This is a casual, contract-based freelance role with fluctuating hours and time commitments. Some weeks may require up to 20 hours of work, while others may have no assignments at all. This position is best suited for a freelancer, as the successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own taxes and deductions. Applicants must have the availability, dedication, and time management skills needed to meet deadlines reliably, even with varying workloads. Level: This is an entry-level job that would be suitable for someone currently in an aligned educational program, recently graduated, or someone looking to expand their experience. We are happy to support the right person in their learning and development of their skills. Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks: consistent communication with the Director and other employees using provided templates, content, and images, laying out magazine issues participating in review cycles and be open to feedback and discussion administrative organization, including project management tasks learning new skills when a project calls for it Knowledge & Skills: This is an entry-level position, and, as such, we do not expect an advanced user. We expect the following knowledge & skills: Excellent English communication skills (reading, written & verbal) Attention to detail and ability to focus on provided tasks Creativity and willing to share ideas An understanding of visual design for kids (with direction) Ability to accept constructive feedback and apply it to materials Comfort with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Google Drive tools, internet research, and the willingness to grow those skills Project and time management skills, able to set & meet deadlines The ability & willingness to ask for support and ask questions Can work independently, while still collaborating with the larger team If you have 70%+ of the skills and qualifications noted above, we encourage you to apply for the position. You can be located anywhere in Canada your schedule is flexible. Meetings kill flow state and take time from our day, we could be working (or playing!), so we only meet if it is necessary. Pay: We pay freelancers per project (with milestone payments) so as not to punish efficient and correct work. If you can take less time to do an excellent job, we would rather pay you for your knowledge and efficiency than penalize you by paying you less (hourly). So, we will provide you with a new contract for each project we engage you on. The rate for that project will be fair and based on the type of work we are asking you to complete. If the scope of work expands, we will create a new contract. You will be paid by e-transfer. You will need to submit invoices with payment terms of 30 days upon completion of work. You will be responsible for your own deductions, taxes, health benefits, etc. Please ensure you are comfortable and knowledgeable about how much you can make before registering as a business, etc. Please note that we are not in a rush to fill this position. It is most important that we fill the role with someone who is ready, dedicated, and is able to complete the work. For that reason, there is no official close date.
