Hello

If you are here to read our story, you are my people. I love stories and always thought I would be a writer when I grew up. While I didn't become the next Robert Munsch, a lot of the learning we help to create involves storytelling. Stories bring learning to life and help to make practical connections to one's life.

The Learning Designers began in my first basement apartment, downtown Toronto; although I didn't know it yet. I had just begun teaching at a local college and was in a certificate program for Teaching and Training Adults. I thought the certificate would fluff up my resume enough for me to get hired on for another semester of teaching (it did), but it also showed me how not to do teaching/training!

 

Golly! For a program that was supposed to be telling me about great pedagogy and learning strategies, the facilitators were bland, the content was all theory and no practical take-aways, and the presentation would put my rambunctious 4-year-old to sleep! I knew that was what I didn't want my teaching to be.

As time marched forward, I got to working in the teaching & learning centre of that college and had the chance to work with some amazing people who showed me inspiring and exciting teaching and learning. Honestly, it is thanks to that boss that The Learning Designers exists today. He was a people manager (not a task manager) and really helped me to develop and grow my skills. My skills grew so much, a competing college recruited me for their eLearning team through that boss (and he actually suggested me to them... see, he's amazing!).

I won't outline every role and client I have worked with since then, but The Learning Designers has continued to grow steadily. With each new client and experience I was able to apply new skills and expand my reach. Now, The Learning Designers has some truly amazing people working with us.
